"It is not going to be business as usual", Gov. Sani Bello Warns Contractors
Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has reminded public office holders and contractors that it is not going to be business as usual as they owe Nigerlites the duty to work for their salaries or projects which they are paid for.
The Niger state government cannot afford to pay salaries and other allowances to civil servants who are not willing to sit-up and work for the money they are paid from tax payers' money, Governor Bello told them, and insisted that they 'do what is right or get fired'.
Governor Bello said it is not going to be business as usual whereby people claim monies they did not work for, "the current administration came on the platform of change and every worker or anyone paid for jobs or services must deliver accordingly".
Reacting to the shabby execution of jobs by some contractors when he inspected on-going work at the Mamman Kontagora building materials' market, Governor Bello told the stakeholders that, coming on the platform of change, all must be prepared to brace up with a clear departure from how things were done in the past to working and accounting for every money they are paid.
Bello expressed displeasure over the poor standard of work executed, including lack of sign-posts, and directed the immediate erection of sign-posts to guide customers and visitors to the market on where to locate the various items sold in the market.
Also, worried by the series of complaints by the traders, the governor directed the contractor handling the market project to liaise with relevant government officials, traders, including those who were yet to get their allocations on how to make the shops affordable to all.
Apart from the shops not being enough for all the building materials' dealers, the traders had complained of high cost of shops, sometimes more than the entire capital for the business men and women therein and therefore sought for the intervention of Governor Bello.
