When Will a President be Jailed in Nigeria? by Bayo Olupohunda

Nigeria has consistently been rated as one of the most corrupt nations in the world and where human rights violations and injustices are rampant.

Many of our past presidents and heads of state whose administrations are adjudged as corrupt by anti-corruption and human rights watch- dogs are responsible for these economic and human rights abuses Their infractions against the Nigerian state border on crimes against humanity; yet, none of them (past or present, dead or alive) has ever been charged or sent to prison. Neither has any one of them been shot as they do in China.

They are still around, attending the Council of State meetings and struting the landscape as elder statesmen offering advice on “how to move the nation forward”. Nothing can be more ironical. Compare this to Egypt where Hosni Mubarak and Muhammed Morsi have recently been jailed. Look at France where Nicolas Zarkozy is being investigated for corruption. Add this to Israel where Ehud Olmert is behind bars. Then, you will get the sordid picture of the Nigerian condition.
