Niger State Governor's CPS Threatens Court Action Against DSS

The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State, Dr. Ibraheem Dooba, yesterday threatened to sue the Department of State Security (DSS) over his recent encounter with operatives of the service.

Dooba told Daily Trust on phone last night that he was waiting for the outcome of a meeting with his principal.

Yes, I am going to court. I am going to seek redress. I am just waiting for the outcome of a meeting with the governor”, he said.

It would be recalled that operatives of the Department of State Services attached to Niger State Government House on Tuesday beat up the governor’s spokesman.

Dooba had gone to the office of the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Ketso, with some visitors but was prevented from entering the premises by some DSS officers attached to the office.

He was said to have told the security men that he was in the office on the invitation of the deputy governor but the security men resisted. This lead to a scuffle in which it was said that Dr. Dooba slapped one of the DSS officials before leaving.

This angered other security operatives who later lured the CPS outside his office by telling him that the Government House Chief Security Officer (CSO) wanted to see him. An unsuspecting Dooba gave in, only to receive a severe beating from a group of DSS operatives. It took the intervention of the governor’s ADC to rescue him mid-way into the CSO’s office.

It was learnt that the security operatives insisted on taking the CPS to their headquarters in Minna, saying that their director wanted to see him (Dooba).

The intervention of some officials of Niger State Government House, who drew the attention of the governor’s Aide-de-Camp, Isah Raji, saved Dooba from further drubbing.

According to Punch, Raji came to the Government House to personally rescue Dooba, whom he took through the back gate of the premises.
