CBN Confirms Receiving N200bn ASUU Funds

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has confirmed the receipt of the sum of N200bn; being first installment sum agreed by ASUU and the Federal Government for revitalization of infrastructure in the country’s ailing Universities.

The Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe, brandished the letter from the CBN acknowledging receipt of the sum before newsmen today.

The letter was signed by the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Tunde Lemo, and addressed to the Accountant General of the Federation.

The Letter titled CONFIRMATION OF THE EXECUTION OF YOUR MANDATE FOR THE CREDIT OF ACCOUNT ON REVITALISATION OF UNIVERSITIES INFRASTRUCTURE ACCOUNT indicates that the sum was paid in three tranches of 129,300,000,000,000k; 20,700,000,000,00k and 50,000,000,000,00k.

However, ASUU is insisting that the Federal Government documents its dealings with the body since the sum is only the first in a series of payments earmarked for Universities over an agreed period.

Proper documentation is now the sticking point as the Federal Government hasn’t kept to its side of the bargain in previous agreements with ASUU, according to the lecturers.
