Niger State Government to Retrieve Its Illegally Sold Land in Abuja
Niger State Government says it would retrieve its land sold at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, by some individuals.
The State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu stated this at the foundation laying ceremony the Housing Estate to be constructed in Abuja, by the Kano State Government.Governor Aliyu pledged to review the records of the lands belonging to the state in Abuja and sold by some individuals with a view to retrieve and develop them.
He acknowledged the effort of the Kano State Governor, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso who retrieved the land belonging to the state and sold by the previous administration.
The Governor noted that many state governments were not able to sustain their lands in the nation’s capital while others, including Niger State, sold theirs, hence the need to retrieve them.
Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, who is the Chairman of the Northern State Governors Forum, lamented that the region was the most least developed in then country and called on the state governors to invest in the housing sector to generate funds and reduce over-dependence on fuel money.
He said his administration would emulate the Kano State Government in building estates in the Federal Capital, Abuja.
In his address, the Chairman of the occasion and former President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida commended the Kano State Government for committing over N14Billion in the housing sector in Abuja, with estimated value of N40Billion.
He noted that the project would reduce poverty and provide accommodation for the people and called on both the federal, state and private sector to invest in mortgage industry.
The Kano State Governor, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso said the Abuja Housing Estate was in line with the policy of his administration to diversify economic generation of the state and to alleviate poverty.
The Chairman of Urban Shelter Limited, the constructing Firm, Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu said the Housing Estate at Lokogoma, Abuja consist of 400 units of one to five bedroom flats and would be completed before the end of the tenure of Kwankwaso administration.
