Mercedes' Self-Driving Car Spotted in San Francisco
As more rumors about driverless cars from Apple and Google continue to emerge, there’s another company that also appears eager to switch gears.
San Francisco residents reported seeing a Mercedes-Benz driverless car in the city last week. The vehicle, reminiscent of a sci-fi movie, is called the F015 Luxury In Motion and was featured at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in September.
On Wednesday, residents were posting photos of their sightings from around the Bay Area. A Mercedes-Benz spokeswoman confirmed the sightings to the Huffington Post.
And as you might expect, people are getting all worked up and sharing their pictures over social media. This image below, in particular was spread online via Reddit and Imgur:
Other witnesses shared photos directly from their personal accounts:
Mercedes-Benz posted a YouTube video in January to highlight its Luxury in Motion “research vehicle” with a video description that said: “The Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion research vehicle is offering a vision of autonomous driving in the future.”
“The luxury saloon with total connectivity gives a preview of how the self-driving car of the future could become a platform for communication and interaction,” it said.
Mercedes-Benz has also posted photos the F 015 Luxury in Motion vehicle on its website, offering consumers a glimpse into the future.

Minority Report looking more like a reality everyday…
ReplyDeleteI was kinda hoping for a flying car, but it's a car you can't control yourself? That kinda takes the fun out of the whole experience. I wonder how this will affect racing sports. Autonomous racing. Lol. Imagine finally passing the drivers test and now it's worthless..
ReplyDeleteCab drivers are probably out of their jobs, too.
Wow, I just can't wait to not drive. I am sorry, but I really LIKE driving... especially when it's a spirited car, it's like your spirit is one with the car and the road, not a freaking touch-screen while totally detached like more and more drivers seem to be
