President Goodluck’s Campaign Billboards Spotted in Abuja [Photos]
As the 2015 general elections gathers momentum, campaign billboards of President Goodluck Jonathan has been spotted in parts of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria.
Although the President has not officially announced he would run, the appearance of these photos are fuelling already circulated rumours that he is ready to re-contest despite internal wranglings in his political party (PDP) and allegations ranging from corruption to tyranny.
Two billboards, which as at the time of this report are mounted along Life Camp roundabout in Northwest region of Abuja read: "Nigeria Youths For Goodluck Jonathan: 2015 The Youths Choice." and "Nigeria Youths For Goodluck Jonathan: 2015 Brighter for All" respectively.
This comes amidst prevailing uncertainty over Jonathan’s 2015 ambition.
The billboards have continued to elicit reactions, as some political observers and residence in the area say it is the handiwork of desperate politicians and political jobbers who are looking for relevance.
Davis Micheal, a resident in his reaction told The Niger Times' correspondent that the billboards may have been emanated from some attention seeking politicians.
Micheal said: "I returned home last week after work and noticed all kinds of Jonathan’s campaign billboards and posters all over the place.
"We all know that 2014 will be a year of serious politicking in Nigeria, so it is expected that people will do all manner of things.
"The presidency may not likely know anything about those billboards, they could be from mischief makers or attention seekers", he said.
Also commenting on the issue, a political analyst Anas Yusuf urged President Jonathan to remain focused and not allow people take decisions for him.
He said, "for now, he should concentrate on making life better for Nigerians; I also advise Mr. President to make good calculation before declaring interest for 2015; he should not allow desperate politicians to mess him up" he advised.
