Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema Acquitted in Underage Sex Case
French football stars Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema have been acquitted on charges of soliciting an underage prostitute.
The duo were cleared after a French court ruled there wasn’t enough evidence they knew escort Zahia Dehar was underage at the time of the alleged incidents.
Bayern Munich winger Ribery, who is married with three children, and Real Madrid forward Benzema faced up to three years in prison if found guilty.
The case has been hanging over the players since July 2010, when a French judge issued preliminary charges against them.
Ribery admitted having sex with Dehar after flying her from Paris to Munich in 2009 for his 26th birthday party. He maintained he did not know she was a minor, or a prostitute.
Benzema, who was accused of paying the woman for sex when she was 16 in 2008, denied any encounter ever took place.
Ms Dehar said she lied to the players and told them she was an adult.
