Nigerian Sets Record of Achievement in the American University of Hopkins

22 -year-old Nigerian Emmanuel Ohuabunva, former resident of Arochukvu, Abia State made history at Johns Hopkins University in the United States.


Emmanuel has given Nigerians another reason to be proud as he became the first black man to graduate in the field of neurological sciences with an average mark (GPA) 3.98 out of a possible 4.0. In addition, he was given the highest honors among graduates at the graduation ceremony on May 24 of this year.

For his achievements, he was granted a scholarship to study medicine at Yale University. He also became a member of society, "Phi Beta Kappa", a prestigious and honorable organization, which consists of 17 U.S. presidents, 37 judges of the Supreme Court of the United States and 136 Nobel Prize winners.

He also received The director award at the annual ceremony at DeBakey High School.

During the ceremony graduates DeBakey I was also given an award as the best high school and as a student volunteer to work in the state of Texas,” – he said.

His first breakthrough was receiving an award from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which gave him the right to free education at any university of his choice. He then proceeded to study neurological sciences at Johns Hopkins University.

On the question of what is missing in the Nigerian education sector compared to the U.S during a short phone interview with The Niger Times's correspondent.

Ohuabunva listed some of the problems of university education in Nigeria: "unpredictable calendar curriculum, corruption, abuse of the exams, lack of funding sources to list a few, were the challenges and that in the United States there are no such problems."
