Niger State Government Signs N2.5 billion For Construction of Shiroro bridge

The Niger State Government on Monday in Minna signed a N2.5 billion contract with a Chinese firm, China Zhonghao Nigeria limited, for the construction of Shiroro bridge over River Kaduna.

The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Development, Mu’azu Bawa, who signed for the state, said the construction of the bridge had become necessary to open up the area and enhance socio-economic activities.

He said that procurement procedure had been followed to ensure due process was strictly adhered to in the execution of the project.

Mr. Bawa said the contract was awarded to the company based on its proven track record in handling projects of such magnitude in the country. He urged the firm to work in accordance with standard and specification to achieve the desired goal, saying that expectation was high on the early completion of the project.

The commissioner tasked stakeholders, especially the host communities, not to see the project as government business alone and urged the communities to partner with the company to ensure smooth take-off of the project.

Mr. Bawa, however, warned that the contractor would be made to refund the money to the state government, if its performance was not in line with contractual agreements.
