Super Eagles' Gambo Mohammed Suffers Muscle Tear in Training

Nigeria striker Gambo Mohammed is expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks after suffering a muscle tear in training with the national side.

The attacker picked up the injury earlier in the week and his place in Stephen Keshi's squad for the crucial second-leg of their CHAN qualifier against the Ivory Coast will be taken by Enugu Rangers frontman Alhaji Gero.

The Super Eagles coach admits he is disappointed to lose Gambo, but believes his team has enough quality to compensate for the 25-year-old's loss.

"It's a pity that Gambo Mohammed got injured two days ago," he said. "We want every of our good players to be ready for the game in Cote d'Ivoire because it is not going to be easy.

"But it is nature and it has taken its course. There is nothing we can do. Any other player who is going to fill his shoes must do what he has to do and do his best for the team.

"Gambo has a muscle tear and relying on what the Doctor told me, he will be out for six weeks. That is a big blow but I think Alhaji Gero (Enugu Rangers) and the rest of them can come to the game. "

"I think they are ready. I can feel it and see it on their faces. They want to do something to make themselves proud and to make Nigeria proud. I can also vouch for the players that they are ready for the task."
