Prof Chinua Achebe’s Novel 'Things Fall Apart' to be Translated to Nupe

The Niger State Government is set to add Nupe and other indigenous languages to the list of over 50 language translations from across the world, of the late literary icon, Prof Chinua Achebe’s epic novel, Things Fall Apart.

According to the Niger Book development Agency, the move is part for efforts by the government to position the state as a major literary hub in the country.

Muhammad Dzukogi, director of the agency while lamenting the fact that in spite of the number of translation, many Nigerian languages are yet to make the list aside the Yoruba language, said the move is also part of efforts of advocates of Nupe renaissance and writers in the state to encourage literary and creative endeavour in indigenous languages across all spheres, especially among the youths.

Dzukogi who also commended the efforts of the Niger State government through the book agency in promoting literacy and reading culture, especially in the indigenous languages across the state, added that the translation would be ready by the end of the year.
