Niger State Government Commences Packaging of Yam Tubers For Export
The Niger State Government in conjunction with the Bank of Industry(BoI) have concluded plans to package yam tubers for export to the United States and some European countries.
Niger State Commissioner of Commerce and Corporative, Alhaji Hassan Abdullahi, disclosed this while speaking at a news conference at the trade fair complex in Minna yesterday where the state displayed a lot of agro products that could be packaged for export.
The commissioner, who addressed a news conference jointly with the Niger State President of Chamber of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture, Alhaji Salihu Madalla, stated that BoI had already identified a warehouse in the US where the yams could be stored and distributed to prospective buyers.
According to him, the state government has been working very hard to ensure that major agricultural produce from the state were exported to other African countries and the world at large.
“We are working with the Bank of Industry (BoI) and the first and major break through we are looking at is export of yam to US , already Bank of Industry(BoI) has identified a ware house in the US for the distribution of the yam produce to prospective buyers,” he said.
The commissioner stated that the state was also into shea butter export through a collaboration with some international organisations.
He stated that Minna has industrial estates set up with all facilities to accommodate large, medium and small- scale industries, adding that similar estates would be built in Kontagora , Bida and Suleja.
Also in his contribution, Madalla stated that the present administration has made the state friendly for investors and have taken private sector as the key players for any transformation.
