Idris Elba Stars as Mandela in Long Walk To Freedom [Movie Trailer]
The biopic stars Luther's Idris Elba as Nelson Mandela, the former South African President and iconic anti-apartheid revolutionary.
The trailer sets a philosophical voiceover from Elba (as Mandela) to a simple aerial shot of his Mandela walking across a rural landscape.
Elba is already being tipped for an Oscar nomination for his performance in the film, which is based on Mandela's own autobiographical book, Long Walk To Freedom, published in 1994. William Nicholson, Oscar-nominated for Gladiator and Les Misérables, wrote the script.
Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl) directed and Skyfall's Naomie Harris co-stars as Mandela's former wife Winnie. The film opens in US cinemas on November 29 before getting a UK release on January 3, 2014.
Mandela, now 94, was admitted to hospital in Pretoria, South Africa last month (June), where he remains in a critical but stable condition according to recent reports.
