Boat Accident Victims Not From Niger – Gov. Aliyu
The governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has refuted reports that victims of last weekend’s boat disaster were from Niger State.
Aliyu who made this clarification in a signed press statement by his chief press secretary, Mr Israel A. Ebije said the unfortunate travellers were all traders from Abugi, Lokoja local government of Kogi State, adding that none of them was from Niger.
He said that as a Nigerian and having had bitter experience over deaths arising from boat accidents recorded in Niger State, he shares the pain of the unfortunate travellers. He, therefore, called for more care and protective measures to mitigate such mishaps.
While commiserating with the government and people of Kogi State over the tragedy, he said there is need for travellers to avoid night journeys as visibility is always challenging at night.
