Reuters reported that a Malaysian airliner was shot down over eastern Ukraine allegedly by separatist rebels, on Thursday, killing all 298 people aboard.

The plane was reportedly travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, before it came down near the city of Donetsk, stronghold of pro-Russian rebels.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Pavlo Klimkin, told the BBC his government had proof that the plane was shot down by pro-Russian separatists. Mr Klimkin said that Kiev would publish intercepted phone conversations.

But separatist leader Alexander Borodai accused the government of downing the airliner.

"Apparently, it's a passenger airliner indeed, truly shot down by the Ukrainian air force," he told Russia's state-run Rossiya 24 TV broadcaster.

Meanwhile, AP has just reported that President Barrack Obama of the United States has already put a call across to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin over the alleged shooting down of the plane.
