Niger State Governor Appoints Executive Director for Arts Council, Inaugurates Five New Special Advisers
The Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has appointed a new Executive Director for Arts Council and inaugurated Five new Special Advisers.
Mrs. Deborah Salawu who until this appointment was the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is the new Executive Director of the State Arts Council.
The new Special Advisers inaugurated by the Chief Servant are; Mr. Daniel Clifford Shashere (Sports), Malam Ahmed Ibrahim Matane (Rice Value-chain and Staple Food Processing Zone), Dr. Ibrahim Babaminin Sule (Hospital Services and Development Partners), Dr. Mustapha I. Lemu (Staff Development and ICT) as well as Engineer Abubakar Baba Jibrin (Solid Minerals and Investment).
During the inauguration ceremony on Thursday, the Governor called on all political appointees and politicians to always keep in touch with their constituencies.
The Governor said, as politicians, it was important for the political appointees to remain in constant touch with the grassroots and do what was required of them in other retain the confidence of their people for the ruling party.
He noted that the ruling People’s Democratic Party almost lost grip of the electorates in the 2011 elections essentially because those who were suppose mobilize people in the grassroots either deliberately refused to go back to their constituencies or have lost credibility in the eyes of their people.
While calling on the new Special Advisers to live above board in the discharge of their duties, Governor Aliyu directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Saidu Idris Ndako Kpaki to set up a secretariat for them and attach a Permanent Secretary to it.
He also directed the SSG to arrange a weekly meeting, every Thursdays, with the Special Advisers stressing that they were not in competition with their commissioners but were expected to add value by giving quality advice to them where necessary.
The Governor assured that the government would continue to recognize those doing well in the administration and governance of the state.
The Governor also inaugurated two committees to oversee the 2014 Christian and Muslim pilgrimages to Jerusalem and Mecca.
Aliyu named a former Minister of Agriculture Professor Sheikh Abdallah as the Amirul Hajj while also retaining Barrister Abraham Yisa as the leader of the Christian team to Jerusalem.
The Amirul hajj committee also include Ambassador Zubairu Dada, the Emir of Agaie Alhaji Yussuf Nuhu who is the Deputy Amirul hajj, Senator Ibrahim Musa while the Christian Pilgrimage committee also include Reverend Musa Dada, Chairman Niger state Christian Association of Nigeria, Mrs. Talatu Isa, Mr. Jacob Gana and the state Correspondent of ThisDay News Paper, Aisha Wakaso.
