Nigerian Senate Approves Extension of Emergency Rule in Adamawa, Borno, Yobe State
The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday approved the request by President Goodluck Jonathan for an extension of emergency rule in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States, one week after it received the request.
The upper legislature also demanded that full military operations be undertaken to fight against Boko Haram.
It would be recalled that Dr. Jonathan had last Tuesday asked the two chambers of the National Assembly to extend the state of emergency in the north eastern three states which met stiff opposition in the Upper House as most senators from the north kicked against it.
Subsequently, the Senators without a single voice of dissent have approved additional six months of emergency rule in the besieged states
