'Kpotun Nupe' Barrister Halilu Usman Dies at 78, Northern Govs Commiserate With Etsu Nupe

The governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has commiserated with Etsu Nupe and chairman of Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji (Dr) Yahaya Abubakar over the death of his uncle, Kpotun Nupe, Barrister Halilu Usman.

The late Kpotun Nupe died in Kaduna over the weekend at the age of 78 and was buried yesterday in Bida amidst grief and large turnout of sympathizers who prayed for the deceased.

Governor Aliyu’s message, contained in a statement signed by his spokesman, Danladi Ndayebo, described the death of Barrister Halilu as a big loss to Etsu Yahaya and the entire people of Niger State.

The governor said the late Kpotun touched the lives of many in a positive way through his informed contributions to the Bida Emirate Council, Niger State and Nigeria in general.

"Over the years, the one-time company secretary of the New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC) was a uniting force who worked for peace, unity and tolerance among diverse ethnic and religious interests that cohabit in the Nupe Kingdom." Aliyu Said.

The forum called on all Nigerians to emulate the late Kpotun’s exemplary life of selfless service who lived with uncommon humility and absolute faith in God.

While praying to God to grant the soul of the departed Aljannah Firdaus and members of the bereaved family and the entire Nupe race the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, the forum urged the Etsu Nupe to be consoled by the fact that it is only Allah (SWT) that gives and takes life.
