The ‘Minority’ Story Independence Flash Fiction Contest
Over the years, Nigerians have engaged in great ways with
the amazing cultures of the three major ethnic groups of Nigeria namely Hausa,
Yoruba and Igbo. But hundreds of ethnic groups in Nigeria remain in the
shadows, their stories untold. It is time for stories from these minor ethnic
groups to rise.
To give voice to the untold stories from the minority ethnic
groups, ShortSharpShort.com in association with Naija Stories, The Green
Heritage and Visual Eyez Multimedia, conceived of ‘The ‘Minority’ Story Independence
Contest,’ an online flash fiction contest that kicked off on the 1st of October
2014 to coincide with the 54th Independence Day of Nigeria. This contest aims
to help Nigerians better appreciate their cultural wealth by celebrating the
minority tribes of Nigeria through the power of exceptional storytelling.
