Niger East Senatorial Election: Dr. Zagbayi Emerges PDP Candidate After Primaries

The Former Deputy Governor of Niger State, Dr. Shem Zagbayi Nuhu has emerged victorious at the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) primary election in Niger East Senatorial District held over the weekend in Minna.

Dr. Shem Zagbayi Nuhu polled 372 votes to defeat his arch-rival Alhaji Abdullahi Musa (Ataka), who scored 14 votes.

Announcing the result, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee and Chief Returning Officer, Dr. Mohammed Shata said the election was keenly contested devoid of any controversy.

While thanking the delegates for their discipline and maturity exhibited during the primary election, the Electoral Committee Chairman also announced that 386 delegates voted during the election.

In his acceptance speech, the Former Deputy Governor, Dr. Shem Zagbayi Nuhu advised his opponent to take the result in good faith and called for collaboration in other to ensure that the party clinched the senatorial bye-election seat.

He assured his supporters that the party would not rest on its oars in canvassing for support from the electorate in other to excel.

In his remarks, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa (Ataka) thanked the party for giving them a level-playing ground and pledged to work with Dr. Shem Zagbayi Nuhu for the success of the party in the forth-coming bye-election of the Niger East Senatorial District.
