This is just as the Federal Government intensified screening of arriving passengers at the airport as a result of the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in the West African sub-region.

However, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has assured all users of all the airports in the country that their safety and comfort would continue to be paramount to the agency.
FAAN spokesman, Mr. Yakubu Dati, said that the screening was in three phases.

The phases, according to him, are distribution of forms to all arriving passengers, screening of the aircraft and passengers on arrival.

Dati siad that the screening process was being driven by the Ministry of Health while FAAN, as the landlord at the airport, only created an enabling environment to carry out the process unhindered.

He explained that it was the duty of the officials to determine who to screen for the virus, stressing that the airlines, government and even the passengers had a role to play in curbing the deadly virus within the airport.

He said: "We want to ensure that we take our responsibilities seriously. The airlines and other stakeholders have a role to play to ensure a total checkmate of the virus in the country.

"The airlines are to make sure that the passengers who board aircraft don’t have the virus and they are expected to provide health facilities to them from the port of departure.

"And in case of any detection, we have a holding bay and quarantine area for those who are suspected to have the virus in their system. All the airlines are being given strict instructions to ensure that the safety of all is guaranteed.

"No one including the pilots will want to die. We in FAAN have technical personnel on ground to ensure that the best industry standards are adhered to. However, we are advising against stigmatisation of the people by the society. It could be anyone."
