Niger East Senatorial Bye-election: APC Says it will Ensure David Umaru’s Victory

The Niger State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the party will ensure Barrister David Umar's victory in the August 30 by-election for Niger East senatorial district.

The publicity secretary of the party, Mr Jonathan Vasta, in an interview with Leadership said that all plan against the party’s candidate had been uncovered in some local government areas and that the party was on top of the situation.

He said that the party’s men all over Niger East were fully mobilized to ensure that the political tactics meant to compromise the forthcoming election were neutralized to ensure that people’s votes count.

Meanwhile the Niger State government has said that no matter what All Progressives Congress (APC) does, they will not win in the next by-election into Niger East Senatorial seat.

The commissioner of information Niger State, Dalandi Ndayebo who made this known yesterday at a press briefing said only a party with no sense of history like the APC will dare toy with the collective resolve of the people of Niger East senatorial district.

According the Leadership, the commissioner said, "The people of Niger East senatorial district have never ever voted for an opposition party in an election that is as sensitive as the one at hand". He said the people of the zone have established their independent democratic credentials even before some of the present leaders of the opposition party joined partisan politics.

He emphasized that "Even when the so-called hurricane blew across a particular section of the state in the 2011 general elections, the people of the Niger East senatorial district dared to be different-they remained with the PDP."
