Gov. Babangida Aliyu To Unveil New C of O For Niger State Land Owners
Gov Babangida Aliyu of Niger State is to unveil a new Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for the state as from next month.
The Commissioner for Information, Danladi Ndayebo, who disclosed this in Minna yesterday explained that the idea was part of the on-going efforts to reposition land administration for better service delivery.
Ndayebo said the scheme, which is being executed by the Niger State Geographic Information Systems (NIGIS) would speedy the processes leading to the issuance of new Certificates of Occupancy (Cs of O) to land owners across the state.
He said the project will make for proper documentation of all land matters and also unlock huge revenue potentials of the state.
He emphasized that since the current administration established NIGIS, there has been tremendous improvement in revenues accruing to the state from land related transactions.
The commissioner said once the new C of O is launched on August 4, 2014, land owners would have three months within which to present their old Certificates of Occupancy for recertification or regularization, failing which they will forfeit their titles.
He further explained that the new C of O is a two page (one sheet) document which contains information about the applicant, condition for granting the title, the governor’s signature and the photograph of the applicant embossed on the front page.
He said a drawing which shows the size and coordinates of each plot of land can be found on the back page of the new Certificate of Occupancy.
