Niger State Soon To Be Among Oil Producing States in Nigeria, as FG Strengthens Support
Following the discovery of hydrocarbon (crude oil) in Niger state, the governor of Niger state, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has intimated that after series of discussions with the ministry of petroleum resources, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has been cooperating in the processes of exploration.
The Niger state governor who is optimistic Niger state will soon be among oil producing states in Nigeria has already commissioned a Chinese firm, Shengkang Group to examine the depth and quantity of hydrocarbon in the Bida basin towards commencing oil production.
"The Chinese company is here to help with the possibility of bringing out oil from the Bida basin. They are here to drill to see the quantity of oil in Niger state based on scientific findings."
"We need Federal Government approval and lucky enough, the DPR has been cooperating with us. In few years to come Niger state will join oil producing states in Nigeria", he said.
The governor who is proactive about mitigating negatives of oil exploitation has intimated that all necessary precautionary measures have been discussed ahead of actual production. He added that with the advent of new technologies, host communities have no reason to worry over oil related pollution of the environment.
The Niger state Governor has however pledged to assist the investors with all necessary logistics saying "we will do whatever is possible to make the job easier. We will make sure we oblige you with our own side of the bargain."
Meanwhile the president of Shengkang oil and Gas Company, Mr. Quingzeng Liu has expressed optimism, that from the data being studied so far, there will be commercial quantity of crude oil in the Bida Basin.
The company has indicated interest in bringing state of the arts technology to embark on studying the soil for immediate exploration/exploitation.
