The five-time national champion and pregnant Olympian crossed the finish line last, but was a winner in the eyes of many for running the event just six weeks away from her due date.

The 28-year-old, who is also dubbed "The Flying Flower," crossed the finish line in 2 minutes, 32.13 seconds -- nearly 35 seconds slower than her personal best of 1:57.34 in 2010.

"I know there is a lot of stigma and really, the word is ignorance, behind pregnant women and exercising. And the truth is, it's good for the mom and the baby," Montano told CBS2's Rachel Kim after the race.

CNN's Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, believes it is safe for Montano to compete because her body is used to it. However, he says that is not the case with all pregnant women.

She was never close to being lapped, taking a nice relaxed pace from the start and maintaining it throughout, according to the plan Montano laid out after consulting with her physician.

Not only did doctors give Montano the OK to run, they encouraged her.
