Niger State Assembly Confirms Five New Commissioners

The Niger State House of Assembly, at its plenary, has screened the five executive nominees for appointment as commissioners in the State Executive Council.

It would be recalled that the State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu had, in a letter to the Legislature dated April 29, 2014, sent the names of the five nominees; Danladi Mohammed Ndayebo (Gbako), Abubakar Tukur (Shiroro), Isah Liman Kantigi (Edati), Abdulkarim Suleiman Mazakuka (Mashegu) and Lawal Abass Mohammed Sarkin Pawa (Munya).

The nominees were ushered in to the legislative chambers one after the other and were made to answer some questions by the legislators. Thereafter, their names were mentioned one after the other for the voice vote and confirmation.

Speaking shortly after the screening exercise, the Speaker, Barrister Adamu Usman stated that the House had done its constitutional duty. "Well, we have done our constitutional responsibility; the next one is that of yet another constitutional duty which has to do with oversight as contained under section 128 of the 1999 constitution", he added.
