Breaking News: Many Feared Dead as Bomb Blast Rocks Densely Populated Area in Jos

A bomb has exploded in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.


The heavy explosion was heard at about 2:55pm Tuesday afternoon. Casualties is presumed to be high because the explosion is said to have happened along Ahmadu Bello Way, a densely populated area where Jos ultramodern market known as Abuja Market is located.

Details of casualties not yet known as security agencies had condoned off the areas and rescue operation is ongoing.

Update(20:05): At least 118 people have been killed and many others injured by two bomb explosions in the volatile central Nigerian city of Jos, police say.

The first blast was in a busy market and the second went off outside a nearby hospital.

Militant group Boko Haram has also carried out a spate of recent bombings.

A spokesperson for the regional governor told AFP news agency that most of the victims were women. The market and bus terminal are part of the commercial centre of Jos.

No group has said it carried out the attack. However, Jos has seen several deadly clashes between Christian and Muslim groups in recent years.
