Former Niger State Commissioner of Education Dies at 64

The death has been announced of Alhaji Adamu Bawa Muazu, a commissioner of education in Niger State between 1994 and 1997


Adamu Muazu, who was also the secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), that conducted the 1999 elections during the regime of General Abdulsalami Abubakar, died on Monday around 8pm at age 64 and was immediately buried in Minna, Leadership reports.

He was also a principal private secretary to the governor of Niger State in the ‘80s when David Mark was the governor of Niger State and worked also in banks before he was appointed as secretary of INEC.


The governor of Niger State Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu who spoke through chief press secretary Danladi Ndayebo, stated that the state was pained by the death.

Governor Aliyu also extolled the virtues of the late INEC scribe, while acknowledging that it was a trying period for him after losing a traditional ruler, the late Emir Of Agaie, Mohammed Kudu, barely 24 hours before the death of Alhaji Muazu.

He survived by two wives and 19 children.
