Seven-year-old Almost Loses Eye After Freak Accident in Chinese Factory

This unfortunate youngster discovered why you should never run while holding scissors after getting a pair stuck in just millimetres from his eye for five hours.

Seven-year-old Xiao Wen from Wenzhou in eastern China's Zhejiang Province was holding a pair of mini shears while playing in a factory workshop while his parents worked.

But he tripped and fell face first on them, with one of blades only missing his eyeball by a matter of millimetres.

It wasn’t until five hours after the incident that the shears were finally removed as Wen had to be moved from a local hospital to a bigger one.

Doctor Zhu Guangdong from 2nd Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University said the two blades thrust into the Xiao Wen's face, missing his right eye by milimetres.

He said: 'His right eye socket fractured, and one blade nearly injured the eyeball.'

X-rays taken before surgeons removed the shears show just how close one of the blades came to the eyeball.

A photograph taken after the operation shows Xiao will be left with only a small scar and Doctor Zhju said he was confident the youngster will make a full recovery.
