Over 120 Kaduna Slain Villagers Given Mass Burial, as Gunmen Kill 35 in Taraba

At least 120 persons, mostly children and women, killed between Friday and Saturday by yet-to-be identified gunmen in three villages – Ugwar Sankwai, Ungwar Gata and Chenshyi, all in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State were buried in a mass grave on Sunday.



According to Punch, Gunmen on Friday night and Saturday morning wielding sophisticated weapons had killed persons in Ungwan Gata, Sankwai and Tekum villages of Bondong District, Moro’a Chiefdom and injuring many who are presently hospitalised in different hospitals in the state and in Plateau State.


The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU, the umbrella body for ethnic nationalities in the southern part of Kaduna State, has said that the people of the area have no choice than to defend themselves against the frequent attacks and killings by the Fulani gunmen. The group’s President, Dr. Ephraim Goje said that "since government cannot protect their lives, they need to brace up to defend themselves."

Meanwhile, in another development Leadership has reported that suspected Fulani herdsmen yesterday killed 35 persons and burnt properties worth millions of naira in an attack on Ikyo, Catholic Church, Agwaza, Kokonbo, Azer, Lijam, Akesa, Tyow Doshima, Tse Saka and Kwaghlando districts in Takum local government area of Taraba State.

When contacted, the divisional police officer in charge of Takum, DSP Aghogho Akpovwovwo, said he was not in the position to speak to the press.
