Gunmen Kill 22, Burn Houses in Plateau State
Gunmen have allegedly killed 22 people during an overnight attack in Mavo village in Wase local government area, Plateau State CAJ News Africa reports.
Witnesses said that villagers were randomly shot at early Thursday morning and more than ten houses burnt down.
Interim Administrator of the local government, Zakari Haruna confirmed the attack but declined to disclose the casualty figures but confirmed houses had been burnt.
He said peace had meanwhile been restored to the community.
According to the CAJ News Africa, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Felicia Anslem also confirmed the attack but said she was yet to be fully briefed on the extent of damage.
This comes just two days after unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, invaded two communities in Riyom Local Government area of the state, reportedly killing 30 civilians, two men of the Special Task Force (STF) and setting about 60 houses ablaze.
