Sen.Gbemisola Saraki, other APC Chieftains in Kwara Defect to PDP

Former governorship aspirants Senator Gbemisola Saraki with several chieftains of All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday converged in the Kwara state capital alongside their supporters to declare their support for the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Nigerian Bulletin reports that while addressing supporters in Ilorin, the younger sister to Senator Bukola Sakari urged them to join hands with the PDP "to rescue Kwara state from the shackle of oppression". Saraki also expressed worry about the plight of youths in the state, added that majority of them were jobless.

"The situation is so bad that many people have abandoned the trades they spent several years to learn", Saraki said.

Saraki expressed optimism that if voted into power, PDP would return Kwara to the path of excellence in the management of human and natural resources.

She further urged the people of Kwara to support President Goodluck Jonathan.

Other notable individuals who defected alongside Saraki include Mr Lola Ashiru, Prince Sunday Fagbemi and Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the governorship candidate of the CPC in the 2011 elections.

Gbemisola, who was a legislator at both the lower and upper chambers between 1999 and 2011 under the banner of the PDP, sought the party's ticket to run for governor in her state but was upstaged.
