Governor Aliyu Speaks on Woman Who Allegedly Died in His Office

Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu the Governor of Niger State said Hajiya Bilkisu Mahmoud did not die in his office, contrary to media reports, but was rushed to the Minna General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.


The chief servant said according to doctors' reports, the 46-year-old died of cardiac asthma, even though she had been receiving treatment for pulmonary asthma.

"The woman came into my office panting, I thought it was because of the stairs she climbed but she told me that she was sick and had a heart problem.

"She came to lay some complaints on some issues in the state and as she was speaking, she started coughing. When the coughing did not stop, I sent for an ambulance which came and took her to the hospital.

"I want to state here that I was in the office till late in the evening, waiting to hear report about her health, and I was shocked to hear she died" he said

In Honour of the deceased, the governor promised to look into the issues brought before him by her.

He expressed his condolence to the bereaved family and urged the Head of Service to ensure all her entitlements were paid to the family in due time.

The Governor also directed the State Civil Service to work out the modalities for a mandatory annual medical check-up for all civil servants in the state.

Adding that the medical test for civil servants had become necessary in view of the increasing number of people who were non-chalant about the state of their health.
