Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders Training Program [APPLY]
By now, one will imagine that a lot people would have heard about President Obama's Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).
Well! the Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, is a new flagship training program of the President’s Young African Leaders Initiative that will bring 500 young leaders from Africa (50 from Nigeria) to the United States next June for six weeks of executive training in one of three areas-civil society development, public administration/management, or entrepreneurship.
The training will be followed by a summit meeting with President Obama and then internships in the United States and Africa for YALI fellows, which would last six to eight weeks.
The application process, from December 5, 2013-January 27, 2014, is self-nominating: throughout Africa, individuals are able to access a website (accessible through youngafricanleaders.state.gov ) to fill out an application.
The non-profit International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) is the U.S. government contractor assisting with the application process.
IREX and U.S. embassies in Africa will assist in compiling slates of shortlisted applicants and interviewing applicants from among these slates.
The State Department/USAID in Washington will lead in determining who emerges as program finalists and alternates.
Applicants must be between the ages of 25 and 35, be citizens of Nigeria (no dual nationals), and have demonstrated achievement in the one of the three executive training areas(civil society development, public administration/management, or entrepreneurship). Applicants may have studied previously in the United States.
