Passenger Jet Ditch Landing After Turning SIDEWAYS Due To High Winds [Video]

This is the terrifying moment an Emirates Boeing 777, which was arriving in Birmingham from Dubai almost landed sideways as ferocious winds hit the UK yesterday (Thurs).

Passengers told how they watched the drama unfold on the TV screens on the plane. Some started vomiting as the pilot struggled to control the 777.

According to Mirror the packed Emirates plane en-route from Dubai was trying to land at Birmingham Airport.

The plane approached the runway almost at a right angle before the pilot took emergency action.

He opened the throttle and aborted the landing just seconds before the plane was due to land on the tarmac.

After missing a second attempt to land the pilot was forced to divert to Gatwick airport.

Passenger Kevon (corr) Miller wrote on his Twitter account: “So after THREE failed attempts at landing in windy Birmingham, had to land at Gatwick. Nice one. FFS!!! #HeadsGone”.

Kevon, from Birmingham, went on to describe the panic that gripped the flight in a series of follow-up tweets.

They read: “Never flying again ... could have died. I was full on shook ain’t gonna lie wind was nuts bruv!!!

One woman opposite me started throwing up after the 2nd attempt in landing

There monitors on the plane that change screens, as we tried to land, it was on the camera facing the runway.

It was shaking hard all the way from when we got out the clouds, we was watching it on the monitors.”

A second flight operated by Brussels Airlines also missed its first landing before eventually touching down safely.

The powerful storm sweeping the UK has killed two people, caused transport chaos and led to the evacuation of thousands of families living on the east coast.

More than 10,000 homes in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex are being evacuated after officials warned that the lives of people in the region could be at risk from the worst coastal tidal surge for over 60 years.

The Environment Agency (EA) has issued a number of severe flood warnings - the highest category, which are only issued when flooding poses a danger to life - to the east coast and north Wales as high tides and strong winds threatened to swamp the coastline.
