Mikel Obi, Drogba, Toure Shortlisted for African Player of the Year Award
It is the first time that 26-year-old Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has made the final three-man shortlist of Confederation of African Football (CAF) African Player of the Year Award.
The list which was released on Tuesday also includes 35-year-old Galatasaray player Didier Drogba and fellow Ivorian, Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure both who have won the award twice in 2006 & 2009 and in 2011 & 2012 respectively.
"The Ivorian pair of Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba make the final three for a second successive year and will be joined by John Obi Mikel of Nigeria," CAF said on their website.
The 2013 winner will be announced at a ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria, on January 9.
