Prof. Jerry Gana and Other Niger State PDP Faction Ask for New Secretariat
A faction of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State led by former Minister of Information Professor Jerry Gana and former Governor Alhaji Abdulkadir Kure has called on the National Chairman of the Party Alhaji Bamanga Tukur to help them get the state party’s Secretariat or get a new state Secretariat for them.
This is coming on the heels of the romance between Governor Babangida Aliyu and leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) led by General Muhammed Buhari and Asiwajo Bola Tinubu, who visited him Tuesday in Minna.
It was reliably gathered by our correspondent Tuesday in Minna that the group, led by the two PDP stalwarts to the National Chairman is tantamount to the crisis within the PDP in Niger State where the Governor has refused to leave the Secretariat while parading himself as a ‘rebel’.
According to the source: "We are the authentic PDP members in Niger State, we want to go to the National Chairman to assure him that we are with him all the way.
"We also want him to see that the National body intervenes and see that Governor Aliyu handovers the State Secretariat to us or he (Tukur) should help us get a new State Secretariat since the Governor is refusing to leave, claiming the secretariat was built with state funds and thus owned by all."
Our correspondent also gathered that the Jerry Gana-led group is mobilizing people from all the 25 Local Government Areas of the state to pay a solidarity visit to the national Chairman Wednesday.
When contacted the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hassan Saba, who expressed surprise, said he was not aware and declined to comment on the issue.
Kure, who has been out of the country attending Umrah in Saudi Arabia, is expected back in the country Wednesday.
