Chinese Couple Sell Daughter Online For iPhone

A Chinese couple allegedly sold their baby online to buy shoes and an iPhone. The couple, who was named Mr. Teng and Ms. Zhang by the Shanghai prosecutors, faces action of human trafficking.

The two defended themselves that the action they did was an "act of love and sacrifice." They said that they really didn't care about the money that they got but was more concerned about the financial security and the education that the family who got the baby will provide for their baby girl.

"We did not send the baby off for a profit, but to give the child a better life of security," the duo told the Jiefang Daily newspaper.

The parents of the baby posted ads in the news paper and online posting for $4,900 to $8,200.

After the alleged transaction with their daughter, the two reportedly went on an online shopping spree and bought a new iPhone and new shoes, among others.

During her pregnancy, Zhang told everyone that the baby bump she had was a lump. The mother of the child then gave birth at home for others not to suspect that the alleged tumor was actually a baby.
