Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare Wins another Medal at IAAF World Championships

BLESSING Okagbare’s first medal in the track at the ongoing World Athletics Championships came on Friday in the colour of a bronze.

The Nigerian claimed the bronze in the final of the women’s 200m at the Luzhniki stadium, Moscow, Russia.

The gold medal was won by Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce who returned in a time of 22.17. Murielle Ahoure of the Ivory Coast claimed the silver in a time of 22.32. The silver had also gone to Ahoure in the 100m event which was also won by Fraser-Pryce on Monday.

Okagbare returned in the same time as Ahoure on Friday but the Ivorian’s better reaction time of 0.180 earned her the silver. Okagbare’s reaction time was 0.154.

All the three Americans that competed in the 200m final finished outside the medals range with the greatest casuality being former world champion Allyson Felix who did not finish the race due to injury.

The two others - Jeneba Tarmoh, with a time of 22.78secs finished fifth - while ChaRonda Williams returned in a time of 22.81 to place sixth.
