Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper in New Movie 'American Hustle' [Watch Trailer]

The first trailer for 1970s-set crime drama American Hustle has been released.

The film, which was originally titled American Bullshit, is a fictionalised based on the 1978 FBI sting operation known as "ABSCAM", which successful took down a number of corrupt public officials including a United States Senator.

It's the latest film from David O Russell, director of Silver Linings Playbook and The Fighter, and the cast includes actors familiar from both movies. Christian Bale and Amy Adams from The Fighter star alongside Playbook's Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, with Russell newcomer Jeremy Renner rounding off the main cast.

All appear in the trailer sporting an impressive array of 1970s haircuts, outfits and - in the case of the male cast members - facial hair.

Meanwhile, the film's supporting cast includes Robert De Niro, Louis CK, Jack Huston and Michael Peña.

American Hustle opens in Nigeria Cinemas on Boxing Day, a day after its US release.
