Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu: I’m not Aware of IBB & Abubakar’s Sons’ Governorship Ambition

Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger state has said that he was not aware of the interest of the son of former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, Mohammed, and that of Alhaji Sani Abubakar, who is son-in-law of former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, to contest for the governorship position in 2015.


Speaking in Minna on Monday, when he received in audience the management staff of The Niger Times, however confirmed the expression of interest by his deputy, Ahmed Musa Ibeto, and the Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Mohammed Bawa Muazu, for the 2015 governorship race.

He said: “Apart from the deputy governor and the commissioner, I have not been informed of another interested person in the race. Although I have seen the posters of some of these people you mentioned, Mohammed Babangida and others in moving cars, they have not told me anything about their interest and so I am not aware.”

He said he has no anointed candidate, adding however he will give his support to any of the aspirants that met his criteria and specifications for a successor.

Aliyu said: “I will encourage the interested candidates to consult among themselves and come out with a consensus candidate to avoid unnecessary overheating of the polity in 2015.”
