World Bank Commends Niger State for Setting the Pace on the Use of Statistical Data in Nigeria

Niger State Bureau of Statistics has been commended and described as a role model for other ones in the country by a team of World Bank officials while inspecting some facilities in Minna.


The team Leader of the World Bank officials led by senior statistician on development data group development economics, Mr. Alain Gaugris expressed satisfaction with the facilities and cordial relationship maintained by the bureau and users of its products.

Mr. Allen was particularly happy with the quality publication of data by the bureau and called on the state government to increase its funding ton the bureau.

The team also emphasized the need for close collaboration with the end users of data especially journalists so that they could meaningfully contribute to the development of the country.

Earlier in his speech, the Chairman Board of Directors, Alhaji Ahmadu Umar commended the donors and noted that their intervention had really moved the bureau ahead of others in the country.

Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru stated that several workshops had been organized for users of data but urged them to assist the bureau with more funds to organize more.

The Statistician General of the Bureau, Alhaji Usman Liman appreciated the officials and promised to make judicious use of all materials donated to them. He revealed that about N30Million worth of working materials had been donated to the bureau.

The officials also paid courtesy calls on some user agencies including the Ministry of Education, Planning Commission and Office of the Head of Service among others.
