Jim Carrey : I Cannot Support the Level of Violence in Kick Ass 2

Hollywood comic Jim Carrey is refusing to promote his own new movie Kick Ass 2 because of the staggering level of violence. Carrey, 51, is upset at the volume of death, gun firing and mindless beating in the film made by Jonathan Ross’ wife Jane Goldman.

The actor, who plays gun-wielding vigilante Colonel Stars and Stripes in the super-violent film lashed out at the film on Twitter.

The new trailer for the film features many scenes of disturbing violence from its opening seconds.Watch movie trailer and read Jim's tweets under:

His comments will rock the producers of the movie, who had hoped the funnyman would promote their summer blockbuster.

Carrey is a staunch gun control advocate. He finished the film on November 23 last year, just weeks before the Sandy Hook Elementary school tragedy, in which 28 people in total were killed by gunman Adam Lanza in America.

Fans of the actor seemed split on his proclamation, with one saying: “It’s a movie. A fun, violent movie. If there was no violence on TV there might be more in real life."

Some fans even called on the star to give away his salary to 'prove his sincerity'.

Another said: “Very brave to come out with that, I hope you get that support from the film industry, most are good understanding people.”

Carrey stars alongside Aaron Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz in the sequel of the movie, which proved a huge hit in 2010.

It is due for release in the UK on August 14.
