Fishermen Find $2.5 Million Worth of Cocaine

Five Florida fishermen used to reeling in huge marlin instead found themselves hauling in $2.5million worth of cocaine.

The local fishermen observed a large bale floating in the water, retrieved it from the Gulf and pulled it into their vessel. When the fisherman saw that it contained numerous individually wrapped packages, they contacted law enforcement.

It was quite the catch. The group were left stunned on Wednesday after stumbling across 55-pounds of the drug floating in waters three miles off the coast of Destin. The cocaine was handed over to the Okaloosa County Multi-Agency Drug Task Force.

Investigators say the drug  wrapped in small packages stamped with "00" could have come from Venezuela because of certain words also written alongside.

"This is definitely not a source city for that quantity of narcotics," the Sheriff said. Revealing it was "not uncommon" for them to wash ashore in Florida, he said floating bales of marijuana had previously been found on local beaches.
